PURPOSE:To produce lemon oil free from phototoxicity without exerting a bad influence on fragrance, color tone, balance of useful purified oil components, etc., by reducing only furocoumarins contained in the lemon oil. CONSTITUTION:Lemon oil is distilled at about 90-95 deg.C under reduced pressure at about 3mmHg and is separated into distilled purified oil substantially containing no furocoumarins and the distillation residue. Then the distillation residue is dissolved in an ether such as diethyl ether, dioxane, etc., reduced with lithium aluminum hydride and the contained furocoumarins are converted into compounds free from phototoxicity. Then the prepared reduction products are extracted with a solvent and mixed with the distilled purified oil. |
