The invention provides a method and an instrument for measuring the flow velocity of a free flow in space by means of a probe which comprises a flow body with measurement bores, according to Patent Application P 3613867.3, by aligning the flow body via a servomechanism in the flow in such a way that its centre axis extends in the direction of the flow; the pressure is measured at a plurality of points, preferably located at the same distance from the front nose point of the flow body, of the front cap, and a correction signal for the servomechanism is derived from any existing differential pressures.
