The invention relates to a tool change system for an industrial robot with freely movable robot arm and different tools which can be activated by drives, in particular for working the surface of workpieces, it being possible for the tools to be coupled to the robot arm in each case via a chuck. According to the invention, a single drive (21) is arranged stationarily on the robot arm (16, 17) and carries the chuck (25), and the individual tools (300) of the industrial robot (1) are automatically adaptable to the chuck (25) without the need for clamping stations to be used. <IMAGE>
