A device for setting metal eyes which can be composed of an upper part of the eye, having a tubular projection which can be beaded over, and an annular lower part of the eye, in the tarpaulins of heavy goods vehicles or the like, consisting of a tool which holds the upper part of the eye and a tool which holds the lower part of the eye, the two tools being able to be joined together in such a way that the tubular projection of the upper part of the eye engages through the pre-perforated tarpaulin and its free edge is beaded over behind the inner edge of the annular lower part of the eye, the tool holding the lower part of the eye being arranged in the tool receptacle of a hydraulic punching cylinder and the tool holding the upper part of the eye being arranged in the tool receptacle of a hydraulic beading cylinder, and the two cylinders, arranged equiaxially relative to each other, being connected to each other by an approximately semicircular hoop.
