Before welding, the ends of the two articles are profiled in such a way that two regions are produced in each case. The region (1) has a front end face (10), which is heated by the heated plate, whereas the side region (2) adjoining the first region has a bevelled end face (23). During welding, in this way a welding bead is produced only on the side of the region (1), whereas no bead is formed on the side of the region (2).
