摘要 The volume and/or index of refraction of a particle are determined by passing the particle through a beam of light directed along an optical path to produce at least one forward light scattering pattern; detecting and measuring the intensity of light at least within a selected portion of said at least one scattering pattern to generate at least a first signal and a second signal; and determining the volume and index of refraction of said particle from the magnitudes of said first and second signals. Apparatus for this purpose comprises means (26) for directing a light beam along an optical path, means (16) for passing said particle through said light beam to develop at least one forward light scattering pattern, means (42, 48) for detecting and measuring the intensity of light at least within a selected portion of said at least one scattering pattern and for generating a pair of first and second signals, and means responsive to said detecting and measuring means (42, 48) for determining and reporting the volume and/or the index of refraction of said particle from the magnitudes of said first and second signals. The method and apparatus are particularly useful for red blood cell analyses.
