PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber useful as a reinforcing fiber for reinforced plastics, etc., or a heat-insulating refractory fiber, etc., by hydrolyzing a metal alkoxide, spinning the obtained viscous sol, treating the fiber with steam and baking in ammonia stream. CONSTITUTION:A viscous sol is produced by hydrolyzing at least one kind of metal alkoxide composed mainly of preferably silicon alkoxide and/or aluminum alkoxide. The viscous sol is spun to form a fiber having a diameter of 2-50mum, treated with steam at >=60 deg.C and a relative humidity of >=60% and baked in ammonia stream preferably at >=500 deg.C to obtain the objective fiber. |
