PURPOSE:To form outer electrodes readily so that they are smaller than an interval between inner electrodes, by forming insulating layers on the side surfaces of a sintered laminate in the longitudinal direction, selectively removing the insulating layers, applying conductive paste, which is narrower than the width of each insulating layer, on the insulating layer and on the side surface of the exposed laminate, burning the paste, and forming the external electrode layers. CONSTITUTION:Platinum paste, which is to become inner electrodes, is screen-printed on green sheets of piezoelectric material. The sheets are cut into specified shapes. Ten sheets are overlapped and burned. Then a sintered laminate, in which piezoelectric material layers 1 and platinum inner electrode layers 2 are alternately laminated, is obtained. Then a paste of insulating material is applied on side surfaces 5A and 5B of the laminate 3 in the longitudinal direction. Thus insulating layers 6A and 6B are formed. The surface is selectively removed in a strip form by a precise machining method (laser machining and the like) so that the inner electrodes layers 2 are exposed at every other layer. Then the insulating layers 6A and 6B are divided into small island shaped insulating layer parts 6C. Conductive paste is continuously applied on the insulating parts 6C and on the exposed part of the laminate 3 at the width smaller than the width of the insulating layers 6A and 6B. Thus outer electrode layers 7 are formed. |
