In a magazine loading apparatus for sheet metal strips which are taken separately from a plurality of stacks (13) of strips, which are arranged next to one another, by means of suckers (14) and are fed singly via conveyor belts (17, 20) to a magazine (24), sufficient time is available, even in the case of large numbers of cycles, for the removal of sheet metal strips from the stacks (13) of strips if the suckers (14) transport the sucked-up sheet metal strips towards a conveyor belt (17), if a take-over belt (20) adjoins the conveyor belt (17), if a space (28) is located between the area of the suckers (14) and the start of the take-over belt (20), which space corresponds approximately to the width of the sheet metal strips lying one next to the other, and if the conveyor belt (17) is driven alternately at two speeds in such a manner that the removal of the sheet metal strips from the area of the suckers (14) into the space (28) takes place at a high speed and, when the conveyor belt is being driven at the low speed, both the transfer to the take-over belt (20) and the feed of new sheet metal strips to the conveyor belt (17) take place by means of the suckers (14). If the take-over belt (20) runs at a speed which is higher compared with the lower speed of the conveyor belt (17) the distance between the sheet metal strips to be fed to the magazine (24) is automatically increased. <IMAGE>
