A device for displaying the state of discharge of a battery (1), to which an electric motor is connected in the operating condition for a limited time, has a sensor device triggering a signal when no current is drawn, which device is connected to a voltage measuring instrument with a display arrangement (41). In order to detect the respective actual state of discharge of the battery (1) and to determine a meaningful display value with a simple electronic circuit, it is proposed to equip the sensor device with a resistor (88) connected to one terminal of the battery (1) and a comparison device (60) connected behind it whereby the comparison device (60) compares a voltage after the resistor (88) that changes with a delay with a voltage proportional to the terminal voltage of the battery (1). The device for displaying the state of discharge exhibits equipment (35, 36, 37) which keeps the voltage of the display arrangement (41) constant during the time when a current drawing signal is present and adjusts the voltage of the display arrangement (41) proportional to the terminal voltage of the battery (1) during the time when no current is drawn. <IMAGE>
