This apparatus comprises a triac in series with a heating resistor and a device for controlling the triac, so that the current passing through the resistor is formed by half-waves (30, 31) of the mains, with periodic suppression of a number of half-waves corresponding to the maximum power fraction desired. <IMAGE>
