PURPOSE:To easily discriminate the deterioration of a smoothing capacitor in an operation state by monitoring the ripple current or voltage of the smoothing capacitor and detecting its variation. CONSTITUTION:A comparator 32 compares a reference voltage level with a voltage level which drops due to the decrease of the ripple current due to the deterioration of the smoothing capacitor 24 and outputs a necessary output signal when the deviation exceeds a permissible level. Consequently, the output signal of the comparator 32 turns on a switching element 36 properly to energize an alarm 38.
