A starting control device for a compressor (3) is proposed which is driven by a motor (1) by way of a pneumatically operable clutch (2). The compressed air line (12) leading to the clutch (2) is led by way of a pressure reversal chamber (11) of a pressure governor (4) connected downstream of the compressor (3) and this pressure reversal chamber (11) has a direct connection by way of the compressed air line (12) to the clutch (2) and to the working chamber (15) of a pressure governor idling valve, (16) but only indirectly by way of a throttle non-return valve (13/14). In this way the clutch (2) for engagement is vented more rapidly than the idling valve (16) is closed, as a result of which the compressor (3) can start virtually without counter- pressure.
