PURPOSE:To obtain a panel display capable of making two display cells become luminous at the same time by generating seed discharge between the first electrode and salient parts of the third electrode and generating charged particles inside at least two enclosed spaces so that a fluorescent plate is made to become luminous with ultraviolet rays generated by discharge between the first electrode and the second electrode. CONSTITUTION:When a positive voltage and a negative voltage are applied to a common electrode COM1 and an auxiliary electrode H2, respectively, seed discharge is generated in spaces which are formed between salient parts t21, t22 of the electrode H2 and the common electrode COM1 inside display cells C21, C12, so that charged particles are generated inside the display cells C21 and C22. Next when voltages are applied to display electrodes D1 and D2 against the electrode COM1 at proper timing, discharge phenomena are generated inside the display cell C21 formed between the common electrode COM1 and the display electrode D1 and generated inside the display cell C12 formed between the common electrode COM1 and the display electrode D2, so that phosphors inside the display cells C12 and C21 are made to become luminous by generation of ultraviolet rays. |
