A sterile culture medium and delivery/culture vessel for the micropropagation of plants and cell cultures. The culture medium comprises a plug (10) of water absorbant fibrous material, such as cellulose, and a retaining sleeve of, for example, paper or chemical coating which is open at one or both ends. Piror to and during micropropagation the plugs (10) are contained in a delivery/culture vessel which comprises a base tray (1) and a cover (2) which forms a sealable fit over the base tray (1).
