PURPOSE:To perform recognition at high speed and with high accuracy by forming a binarizing level in the whole image from a binarizing level most suitable for a divided image area, and performing recognition by using the binarized level. CONSTITUTION:At the time of teaching, an image is converted to digital image signals by an A/D conversion circuit and stored in a frame memory 3. Then, the image is divided by a controlling circuit 7, and at the same time, and optimum binarized level is formed in the obtained image area, and the optimum binarized level is outputted to the whole image. For instance, the optimum binarized levels in areas (a) and (b) are denoted by Sa, Sb and the optimum binarized level S0 is outputted to data of all images obtained from the image displayed on the display unit. At the time of recognition, a brightness correcting circuit 8 and a binarizing circuit 9 correct the brightness of image data and binarizes the data at the binarized level S. The recognition of a binarized image is performed using the binarized data. |
