PURPOSE:To enable satisfactory maintenance of a contact state with a magnetic head by disposing thin ferromagnetic metallic films as a magnetic recording layer on a high-polymer film and providing cracks thereto along nearly the peripheral direction except part of the thin films on the side where the films make sliding contact with the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The thin ferromagnetic metallic films 9, 10 having the cracks in the peripheral direction except in part on the side in sliding contact with the magnetic head are provided on the high-polymer film 6 to form the magnetic recording layer. Since this magnetic recording medium is provided with the thin ferromagnetic metallic film having high rigidity, underlying layer (including soft magnetic layer), etc., the thin films having the high rigidity act effectively as the thin films, unlike the conventional magnetic recording medium which heretofore fails to maintain the good contact state with the magnetic head. The contact with the head is thereby satisfactorily maintained. |
