According to the procedure, at least one or a number of metals from nickel, cobalt and copper can be selectively precipitated in the form of sulphides using elemental sulphur from aqueous solutions containing other metals such as zinc. The temperature of the reaction is greater than the melting point of sulphur. The precipitation is carried out at a pH below 2. The metals to be precipitated may be present as oxides or as sulphates in the solution. If the metals are in the sulphate form, the sulphide of at least one of the metals is prepared in order to constitute crystalline seeds in the solution, before precipitation.
