The invention includes; a furnace structure (11) having an opening (12) on the top for feeding a steel strip; the first cover member (21) being provided with slits (25), (26) and being movable in the direction of the strip width to shut the opening; the second cover member (41) being positioned under the first cover (21) and having a partition wall (47) for dividing the heating chamber (16) into two parts, one for heating and the other for soaking. The room (15) formed between the cover members prevents the strip from the sudden exposure to the cool atm.
