<p>A control system (10) for a polyphase variable-reluctance motor synthesizes direct- and quadrature-axis currents (id, iq). The magnitude of the direct-axis current (id) is a function of the terminal voltage (Vt) and rotor speed. The magnitude of the quadrature-axis current (iq) is a function of rotor speed. Waveforms, the amplitudes of which reflect the magnitudes of id and iq, are first summed, and are then supplied to an inverter (20) which supplies appropriate currents (ia, ib, ic) to the motor windings (21A, 21B, 21C). In use, the improved control system performs a unique method of controlling the operation of such a motor by selectively controlling id and iq.</p> |
