PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of a thermal head and thereby to enhance the mechanical strength by providing a heat storage layer made of a heat resistant organic material inferier in thermal conductivity to a heat storage projection provided on an insulating substrate only on the projection, and providing a heat generating resistance element thereon. CONSTITUTION:A heat storage projection 22 made of a heat resistant inorganic material or a heat resistant organic material inferior in thermal conductivity to an insulating substrate 2 is formed on a predetermined position of the substrate 2. Further, after the projection 22 is coated only with a heat storage layer 23 made of a thermal resistance organic material inferior in thermal conductivity to the projection 22, a heat generating resistance element is formed on the layer 23 to obtain a thermal head. The thermal head stores thermal energy in the projection 22 and the layer 23, and the thickness of the layer 23 of relatively soft quality is reduced, thereby enhancing its mechanical strength. |
