The wheels of a vehicle have so-called toe-in or toe-out that gives rise to certain forces in the steering linkage (1) which, although not felt at the steering wheel, cause an insignificant elastic deformation of the steering linkage (10). These forces can be measured by sensors (15). An evaluation circuit (8, 9) eliminates from the measurement values of the sensors (10) the forces due to toe-in or toe-out, allowing the adhesive friction between roadway and tyres to be determined. The adhesive friction can thus be continuously measured during travel, without affecting the movement of the tyres.
|
