The invention relates to a ridged sealing element for a seal for sealing off static surfaces, in particular a flange gasket for piping and the construction of apparatus, the said element being composed of a hard material and being provided on both sides with layers composed of a material which is soft in comparison and is plastically deformable, and to a method for its manufacture. In order to provide a ridged sealing element of the abovementioned type, and a method for its manufacture, which element can not only be manufactured and installed with a comparatively low outlay but furthermore also permits a certain spring action of the seal, the invention proposes that the ridged sealing element (1) be designed in such a way that each seal ridge (2) on one side of the ridged seal element (1) has an associated seal valley (3) on the opposite side of the ridged sealing element (1). This element consists of sheet metal with a thickness of about 2 mm. A centering rim is formed integrally on the outer seal ridge of the ridged sealing element (1). <IMAGE>
