PURPOSE:To provide the coherent optical communication system causing no self phase modulation without decreasing the output of an optical amplifier. CONSTITUTION:After the modulation for specifying amplitude, a passive waveguide type optical limiter is arranged in the position immediately after an optical amplitude 1. Thus, the fluctuation in amplitude in high power can be avoided thereby enabling the self phase modulation to be avoided. Resultantly, the output of the optical amplifier 1 can be increased while avoiding the wave form distortion due to the self phase modulation so that the intervals between the optical amplifiers as well as between reproduction.relays may be lengthened. |
