Shock and vibration damper

The proposal is for a shock and vibration damper with a helically wound steel cable (10), the windings of which are each clamped at opposite points in bar-shaped holders (11, 12) extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the helix. The permanently deformed windings have an essentially elliptical shape both in the clamped and in the unclamped condition. This permanent elliptical deformation increases the maximum possible deflection amplitude as compared with conventional dampers of this kind. <IMAGE>
