The centrifugal drum has a separating space (2) and a space (3) for solid material, to which a discharging device is assigned. In the lateral surface of the centrifugal drum there are provided discharge bores (5), which can be closed with respect to the space for solid material by means of a piston slide valve (6). The closing fluid of the closing chamber (7) assigned to the piston slide valve can flow via outlet channels (10) to an annular space (9), which is exposed or closed from the outside by a piston slide valve (8). The annular piston (8) is held in the closure position by a closing force which is generated in a closing chamber (13) and is greater than the opening force generated in the opening chamber (12). For initiating the opening movement of the annular piston, control fluid is fed in via a channel (14) in the region of the large diameter of the opening chamber, which is free from entraining ribs, with the result that, because the control fluid flows through the opening chamber (12), the angular velocity of this fluid increases and consequently so too does the opening force, by which then the annular piston is moved into the opening position (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
