Hydraulic adjustable vibration damper with a damping piston which divides the working cylinder into two chamber halves, the two chamber halves being connected to one another by a bypass, in which an electromagnet provides the facility for controlling the bypass. In addition, a bottom valve is provided in the bottom of the vibration damper and this bottom valve connects the lower chamber half to the compensating space, and a further bypass, likewise controlled by means of an electromagnet, is provided to the valves in the bottom. It is possible to generate different damping forces by control of the bypass in the damping piston and by control of the further bypass in the bottom valve.
