The invention relates to a shaft structure for sanitary landfills which are provided with a bottom seal, the bottom seal being attached liquid-tight to the lower area of the shaft. The shaft structure as well as the method of constructing it enable the ground pressures under the shaft foundation to be controlled in such a way that no settlement differences or only minimum settlement differences occur between the shaft foundation and the rest of the landfill bottom, whereby the tightness of the sealing connection can be ensured. <IMAGE>
