The invention concerns a network system with a large number of low-level networks, each of which has a large number of nodes (N1 to N16), which are linked via data transfer paths, and connected to each other via a repeater (50) for data traffic between these nodes. The repeater has a switching component (6), which contains a large number of switching elements, for selective linking of the low-level networks.
