USE:A novel starting substance for optical resolution in the production of an optically active beta-blocker. PREPARATION:For example, reaction of a compound of formula II (X is halogen) with another compound of formula III (M is alkali metal, ammonium cation) in an inert solvent give the compound of formula I .
