A method and an apparatus for the computer-controlled combination of different articles specified in orders is described, in which storage orders are drawn up and passed on to a conveying device, the number of containers of which is at least equal to the number of orders. The conveying device is moved along an article store in accordance with the storage orders to permit removal of the individual articles of the orders to successive storage positions, in which the articles are removed from the store and placed in the containers allocated to the orders, in accordance with the latter. The predetermined storage positions are successively optically and/or acoustically indicated at the conveying device and each time a storage position has been correctly reached the article to be removed from the store at this storage position and the associated container are also optically and/or acoustically indicated. When the articles have been transferred to the appropriate containers, the loaded container is weighed and/or subjected to optical inspection. The conveying device is only moved onwards to the next predetermined storage position when the correct articles have been deposited in the containers in the correct quantity.
