PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of a cable and to obtain high waterproof power by embedding water absorptive swelling bodies formed by sticking a water absorptive swelling material to non-water absorptive base bodies into a gas between optical fiber units and the sheath of an optical cable. CONSTITUTION:The water absorptive swelling bodies 7 formed by sticking the costly water absorptive swelling material 6 around the inexpensive non-water absorptive swellable base bodies 5 are embedded into the gap between three pieces of the optical fiber units 1 and the cable sheath 2. Inexpensive and highly strong; for example, cord-like PE is used as the base bodies 5. Since the amt. of the costly water absorptive swelling material to be used is considerably decreased, the production of the cable at a low cost is possible. The water absorptive swelling material is stuck to the non-water absorptive members in order to eliminate to contact parts between the members; therefore, the embedding of the swelling material in the detailed parts is permitted and the high waterproof power is obtd. |
