PURPOSE:To prevent a yellow image from lowering in contrast at the toe of its characteristic curve and rising of minimum density even in the case of direct bleach fixing after color development by incorporating in a specified layer a yellow coupler high in reaction velocity and specified in relative coupling reaction velocity. CONSTITUTION:A yellow image forming silver halide emulsion layer contains the yellow coupler high in reaction velocity and having a relative coupling reaction velocity of >=0.3 and represented by the formula shown on the right in which Z is a group to be released by the coupling reaction with the oxidation product of a color developing agent; J is alkylene; and R is alkyl or aryl. The photosensitive material comprises one or more of said emulsion layers, and one or more layers containing colloidal metal adjacent to or through an interlayer to said emulsion layers, and a direct positive image can be obtained by subjecting the photosensitive material after imagewise exposure to fogging treatment, thus permitting the obtained photosensitive material to have sensitivity high enough to reproduce the object to be photographed in high fidelity. |
