PURPOSE:To obtain a sealed alkaline manganese battery having good pressure resistant performance by adding silver to a positive electrode and zinc oxide to a negative electrode, and specifying the adding amounts so that the electric capacity of the zinc oxide is equal to or larger than that of the silver. CONSTITUTION:In a sealed battery using manganese dioxide as a main positive active material, zinc as a main negative active material, and an alkaline aqueous solution as an electrolyte, silver is added to a positive electrode 2 and zinc oxide to a negative electrode. The adding amounts are specified so that the electric capacity required for reducing zinc oxide added to the negative electrode to zinc is equal to or larger than the electric capacity required for oxidizing the silver added to the positive electrode to silver oxide. By adding the specified amounts of silver and zinc oxide to each electrode, gas evolution inside the battery is retarded, and a sealed alkaline manganese secondary battery having good pressure resistant performance can be obtained. |
