PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

摘要

PURPOSE:To improve the durability, wear resistance and lubricity of a recording medium by depositing a thin ferromagnetic metallic film on a substrate and forming a protective film thereon by plasma polymn. using an org. compd. monomer, then subjecting the film to a surface treatment in a reactive medium. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic disk body 1 formed by depositing the thin ferromagnetic metallic film on the substrate is set to electrodes 2A, 2B of a counter electrode type plasma polymn. device. The plasma polymn. is executed by a high-frequency power supply 7 using the org. compd. monomer 8 to form the protective film on the surface of the body 1. The body 1 is thereafter made to exist in a reactive medium atmosphere under prescribed treatment conditions and is thereby subjected to the surface treatment to manufacture the magnetic recording medium. The recording medium obtd. in such a manner exhibits the excellent characteristics in the adhesiveness between the protective film and the magnetic layer, the hardness of the protective film and the smoothness thereof. The durability, wear resistance and lubricity of the recording medium are thereby improved.
