PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for organic rubber in a short time and in high yield with a small amount of by-products, by reacting a halogenated nitrobenzene with an aniline compound in the presence of a copper complex catalyst containing a specific bindentate ligand and a neutralizing agent. CONSTITUTION:A halogenated nitrobenzene shown by formula I (X is positioned in ortho- or para-position and shows halogen atom) is reacted with usually 1-10mol, preferably 1.8-8mol based on 1mol compound shown by formula I of a compound shown by formula II (R is H, methyl, nitro, methoxy or ethoxy) in the presence of a neutralizing agent by the use of a copper complex containing an N,N- or N,O-bidentate ligand preferably at 120-200 deg.C to give a compound shown by formula III (nitro group is positioned at the ortho- or para-position). Dichlorobis(ethylenediamine) copper (II), etc., may be cited as the copper complex. |
