Dwelling of the folding type comprising a lower part 2, a roof 3 which can move vertically with respect to this lower part in order to be unfolded or folded up and means 6 for connecting the roof 3 to the lower part 2, comprising at least two opposite scissors 7 with articulated arms 8, 9, in the shape of a X, which can move in vertical planes, of which one of the ends 8a, 9a of their arms are respectively articulated to the said roof 3 and to the said lower part 2 and of which their other ends 8b, 9b are mounted so as to slide respectively on the said roof 3 and on the said lower part 2, at least one of the arms 8 of one of the scissors 7 being connected to the corresponding arm 8 of the other scissors 9 by a crossmember 23 so that this crossmember 23 and the corresponding arms 8 of the scissors 7 which carry them form a rigid structure. <IMAGE>
