摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To enable stable liquid crystal display to a large area with good contrast by using a polyethylene (PE), polystyrene or polyvinyl phenol as a liquid crystal orienting agent and forming a film contg. said orienting agent on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A nematic-cholesteric phase transition type liquid crystal element having a hysteresis effect to permit bistable display has the liquid crystal orientation film contg. the PE, polystyrene or polyvinyl phenol as the liquid crystal orienting agent. The formation of the liquid crystal orientation film on the substrate may be executed by spin-coating an about 2-3% coating soln. prepd. by; for example, dissolving any of the PE, polystyrene or polyvinyl phenol in a suitable solvent on the substrate at about 1,500-2,000rpm rotating speed. The hysteresis width of the size to permit stable driving is thereby obtd. and the display of good contrast is obtd.</p>
