A vending machine with a locking device for the cover flap of a dispensing compartment or of a dispensing chute, consisting of a locking element engaging over the cover flap, in order to afford a safeguard even against the locking device being levered out forcibly, the latter is designed as a slot-shaped hollow body, the cross-sectional orifice of which corresponds to the cross-section of the cover flap, onto which the locking device can be pushed. Provided laterally on the locking device are fastening walls which extend plane-parallel to the side walls of the dispensing compartment or of the dispensing chute and/or to the front side of the vending machine housing. The locking device is fastened to the housing wall and/or to the side wall of the dispensing compartment by means of tools of releasable connectors.
