An internal combustion engine with a lubrication circuit (3), a cooling circuit (4) and a heating circuit (8) is presented, in which energy for heating purposes is to be efficiently removed from the lubrication circuit (3) and the cooling circuit (4). For this purpose a heat exchanger (21) is arranged in a return line (7), which carries the oil from the lubrication circuit (3) and the cooling circuit (4) into an oil reservoir (1). <IMAGE>
