In a continuously working batch-type continuous-flow washing machine, the pivotable and rotatable inner drum is subdivided into a plurality of chambers by partition walls. Arranged at the connection points of the individual chambers are radially extending double-lip annular gaskets which at least in the region in which washing fluid is present, bear against the inner face of an outer drum and thus separate the different washing fluids from one another. The space between the two lips of the double-lip gasket is free of washing liquids and can be used in various ways. <IMAGE>
