The invention relates to a length measuring device by means of which the operating lengths can be set on milling and sawing machines. The measuring device consists of a component which has a displaceable stop (1) which can be displaced parallel to the plane of the work-table and perpendicular to the tool when the component is mounted on the table of the machine tool. The electrical scanning arrangement of an electrical scale which is likewise provided in the component can be displaced synchronously with the stop (1).
