The apparatus makes it possible, using one and the same operating lever (8), to actuate a front dérailleur for bicycle dérailleur systems with or without use of locking means which allow exact positioning of the operating lever in the different positions corresponding to the individual gears. A hoop nut (22, 31) acting on a movable element (20, 23) brings the two elements (23, 26) forming the locking means into engagement or releases this engagement. In addition, friction means which act in one direction are provided, which become active when the locking means are not used. <IMAGE>
