An apparatus for cleaning large-area textile coverings, in particular carpeting, with a floor adapter which is connected to a base unit via at least one hose connection, can be placed and moved on the carpet covering (7.2), is designed as a flushing chamber (8) and consists of at least two part-chambers (8.1, 8.2), arranged one behind the other in the direction of movement (B) and directly adjoining one another, namely a water supply chamber (8.1), which is connected to a fresh-water supply pipe, and a suction chamber (8.2), which is connected to a vacuum space capable of being evacuated by an exhauster (extractor fan). The water supply chamber (8.1) has, at its underside, a base which possesses at least one water outlet opening (10) and at the underside of the water supply chamber (8.1) there is at least one guiding surface (11.1) extending parallel to the textile covering (7.2) and intended for deflecting the emerging water in the horizontal direction towards the suction chamber (8.2). The bottom edge of the outer wall, opposite the water supply chamber (8.1), of the suction chamber (8.2) is at a preset distance from the supporting plane (A) to supply outside air to the suction chamber (8.2). The water flowing to the suction chamber (8.2) loosens dirt particles from the textile covering and is sucked up under high negative pressure together with the supplied air. <IMAGE>
