An adjustable switching device (5) for an ironing table (1) is arbitrarily adjustable and lockable between lateral spars (20) on rods (8) in bores (36) of the spar (7) parallel to the longitudinal axis of the ironing surface (4) and consists of a carrier (16), on which a foot-switch strip (11) is fastened via rubber elements (12) and a first control element (9, 10) in the form of an infrared reflex-light barrier (9) with a reflector (10) is fastened on lateral angles (18, 19, 25), the interruption of the light beam (32) controlling the switch-on of the blower (2), and of a second control element (13) which, actuated by the foot-switch strip (11) located behind the light beam (32), controls the operating change-over of a change-over device (3) for the blower-air stream in conjunction with a switching arrangement (6) or (6'). <IMAGE>
