A multi-layered paper web (501) is separated by guide means (519) into sub-webs (501A, 501B). At least part of the guide means can be adjusted (roller 536) in such a manner that paths of different lengths are set for the sub-webs between a perforator (503) and a cross-cutter (507) so that the relative displacement of the sub-webs with respect to each other, caused by a pair of draw rollers (513), or a misalignment, caused thereby, of the holes inserted jointly by means of the perforator, is compensated for. The process can be automated by a sensor (557), which monitors the hole misalignment, and an actuating drive (553, 554, 556). <IMAGE>
