The present invention relates to a process for isolating valuable secondary raw materials from oil-contaminated industrial wastes which contain metals or ore-like compounds. Wastes of this type are, for example, oily millscale sludge, oily swarf, so-called greasy cables, oily vessels or piping. In the process according to the invention, calcium oxide is added to these waste materials and the oily contaminants are dispersed by chemical reaction, so that the solids mixture then resulting can be supplied to conventional industrial utilisation. In the treatment of oily vessels or piping, according to the invention it is advantageous to add the calcium oxide as a suspension in lower alcohols.
