PURPOSE:To improve the steering performance by installing a memory means which memorizes the corresponding control electric current characteristic according to the road state and drive state and selectively using these control electric current characteristic and controlling the magnitude of the steering power according to the traveling state. CONSTITUTION:An index calculating means 3 which calculates the drive state index corresponding to the drive state of a driver on the basis of the information value supplied from a car speed sensor 1 and calculates the road state index corresponding to the road state on the basis of the steering angle supplied from a steering angle sensor 2 is installed. Further, a memory means 4 which memorizes four control electric current characteristics which are used in the gentle and lively drive in a city, etc. and in the gentle and lively drive on a mountain road, etc. is installed.
