In order to apply powder to a plastic or rubber surface of a continuous, elongate material, in particular to the core or the inner sheath of an electric cable or an electric line, there is provided a container (1) which, inter alia, has a supply area (17) for the powder, an application device (3) and an area equipped with brushes (5) for removing excess powder. In order to reduce the generation of dust of such a device, as application device there is provided an open box (3) and, additionally, above the supply area (17) a steadying zone (6). Furthermore, the feeding flap (11) of the supply area, which flap in the closed state stands virtually perpendicularly and is arranged to the side of the steadying zone (6), is provided on its inside with nail-like elevations (12) in order to fix a sack of powder. <IMAGE>
