Process for removing halogenated hydrocarbons from the gas phase

The present invention relates to a process for dehalogenating halogenated hydrocarbons, in particular of the especially environmentally hazardous halogenated hydrocarbons such as polychlorinated biphenyls, dibenzodioxines, dibenzofuranes and other polycyclic aromatic compounds. The elimination of these compounds is carried out according to the invention by bringing these, in the gas phase at elevated temperature, into contact with a nucleophilic reaction partner. This nucleophilic reaction partner is preferably applied to a support. The reactivity of the nucleophilic reaction partner with the halogenated hydrocarbons in the gas phase is particularly high if the former has been dispersed chemically. The process enables the removal of halogenated hydrocarbons which occur as the substance, as contaminants in mineral oils, dissolved in soils or as contaminant in compact bituminous phases.
